June 6 - According to ESPN , the first game of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks aired Wednesday night local time, attracting an average of nearly 17 million viewers.
Compared to Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Finals , viewership increased by approximately 90% , making it the best-rated Finals opener since the 2018 Finals matchup between LeBron James and Stephen Curry .
The game's viewership peaked around 11 p.m. Eastern Time , reaching approximately 19.63 million viewers . At that point , the game was in the crucial fourth quarter, and the Knicks ultimately defeated the Spurs 105-95 , taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
This game not only became one of ABC's highest-rated Finals Game 1s in recent years , but also set a new record for the highest viewership of a single Finals game since the 2019 Finals between the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors .
