June 8th - According to ESPN , the Philadelphia 76ers will promote assistant general manager Jameer Nelson to executive vice president of basketball operations, assisting new president Mike Gansey . The former NBA All-Star will become the team's second-in-command.
Sources say former general manager Elton Brand will no longer serve as the team's general manager and has moved to a new position with the 76ers and its parent company, Harris - Blitzer Sports & Entertainment Group. Brand did not previously compete for the position of president of basketball operations but continued to assist the team with draft-related work.
The 42- year-old Nelson was born in Philadelphia and played 14 seasons in the NBA . After retiring, he joined the 76ers' management in 2020 , gradually rising from a scout and G League position to a core management member.
Meanwhile, Mike Gansey replaced Daryl Morey as head of basketball operations. Morey led the team to a 270-212 record during his six seasons in charge , and led them to the playoffs five times, but never made it past the Eastern Conference semifinals.
