Atletico Madrid rejected Real Madrid's €150 million offer and mocked their city rivals on social media.

Atletico Madrid recently officially rejected a record £129 million (approximately €150 million) offer from their city rivals Real Madrid for Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, and publicly mocked Real Madrid on social media.

Real Madrid had previously released a statement confirming the offer, which could have set a new transfer fee record for the club. Although Real Madrid mentioned in their statement that the two clubs maintained a good relationship, Atletico Madrid immediately responded strongly.

Atletico Madrid reminded Real Madrid that Alvarez's contract runs until 2030 and includes a release clause of up to £431 million (approximately €500 million).

Subsequently, Atlético Madrid's official social media team posted online, directly mocking Real Madrid: "You must be confusing manners with gratitude."

"We are neither studying nor considering any offers for Julian. How can the relationship between the two teams be bad when you make us laugh even harder than Barcelona?" In addition, Atletico Madrid also urged Real Madrid to stop poaching young players from their youth academy in the post.

This is not the first time Atletico Madrid has publicly lashed out on social media to protect Alvarez. In May of this year, when transfer rumors circulated between Barcelona and Alvarez, Atletico Madrid accused Barcelona of launching a smear campaign and spreading fake news, even posting several satirical pictures of Barcelona stars wearing Atletico Madrid jerseys in retaliation.
