Tottenham Hotspur announced on Wednesday that Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi will join them on a free transfer. Multiple sources have disclosed that the two sides have signed a contract until June 30, 2030.
The official announcement also confirmed that Senesi will wear the number 5 jersey at Tottenham. His annual salary, according to Tuttosport, is €4 million, double what it was during his time at Bournemouth.
Regarding the signing, Tottenham's sporting director, John Langer, explained: "Marcos is a defender who brings strength, intelligence, and leadership to our team. His experience at the top level, his composure on the ball, and his fighting spirit make him a perfect fit for our tactical style. We are delighted to welcome him to the club and believe that Tottenham is the ideal place for him to embark on a new phase of his career."
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi added: "Marcos' experience, ball control, and competitive spirit will enhance our defense and give us flexibility in formation. He is very comfortable in possession-based teams, has an excellent reading of the game, and possesses the personality to thrive in demanding environments."
“I also greatly admire his mentality and desire to improve. I look forward to working with him and witnessing his great contributions to the team.”
The 29-year-old Senesi came through the San Lorenzo youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in the Argentine Primera División on September 26, 2016. He played for Feyenoord from September 2019 until August 2022 when he transferred to Bournemouth for €15 million.
To date, Senesi has made 128 appearances for Bournemouth, scoring 6 goals and providing 10 assists. He has also represented Argentina's national team 3 times, but was not selected for this World Cup squad.
After completing the transfer, Senesi said in a statement: "It has been a very special feeling to be a member of Tottenham Hotspur. From the beginning, the club showed me why they needed me and how eager they were to have me as part of their team-building plans. I am very excited about this and can't wait to be a part of it."
“Every time I step onto the pitch, I will do my best to make the fans proud and lead the club back to the top. I am eager to win honors with Tottenham and will do everything I can to achieve that.”
