Mainz officially announced the signing of Fabio Gruber.

Mainz 05 have signed Fabio Gruber. The 23-year-old center-back and Peruvian international currently plays for FC Nuremberg and serves as their captain. Since the beginning of 2025, he has made 41 appearances for Nuremberg in the 2. Bundesliga, playing the full 90 minutes in 38 of them. He also captained SC Verde previously .  

Mainz sporting director Nico Bungert said: "We have signed a young but very physical and ball-playing center-back who also has a very good personality. He has shown leadership qualities in his past experience. Combined with his technical characteristics and the match experience he has accumulated at a young age, he will be an important reinforcement to the team's defense. We are very pleased that he has chosen to join Mainz and continue his professional career."  

Fabio Gruber said: "I have had very positive exchanges and communications with Urs Fischer and Mainz from the very beginning. I am very much looking forward to the Bundesliga, and I look forward to taking on new challenges, getting to know the city, the club and the fans better, and going all out with my new teammates after the summer pre-season."
