Leicester City have announced Russell Martin as their first-team manager, with a contract that runs until 2029.

Leicester City have officially announced the appointment of Russell Martin as their first-team manager. The 40-year-old coach has signed a three-year contract with the club, running until 2029. He will take charge of the team immediately and begin preparations for the new season.

As a player, Russell Martin represented Scotland and made over 579 appearances in his career. He played for several clubs, including Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United, Norwich City, Rangers, Walsall, and Milton Keynes Dons, with most of his appearances coming during his time at Norwich City.

During his managerial career, he first took over as manager of Milton Keynes in November 2019, where his possession-based and attacking style was widely recognized. In the summer of 2021, he joined Swansea City, where he continued to refine his tactical approach in the Championship.

In the 2023/24 season, he led Southampton to a new club record, remaining unbeaten in 25 league games, and ultimately helped the team achieve their goal of promotion to the Premier League.

After completing the signing, Russell Martin said: "I am very excited to join this club and look forward to working with the players and staff. It is a club with a long history, a strong fan base and high standards for results. I look forward to getting to know the team, the city and the fans better."

"My core task right now is to focus on the team, build good internal relationships, set clear standards, and create a performance style that Leicester City fans can feel and be proud of."

Leicester City sporting director Jon Rudkin said: "This appointment was made after careful consideration and reflects our key requirements for the future direction of the club. He has excellent leadership skills, makes decisive decisions, and has a clear coaching vision."

Sporting Director James McCullen added: "Russell Martin will be supported by a system that emphasizes consistency, accountability, and high standards. Our goal is to provide the team with the best possible environment so that players and coaching staff can perform at their best and maintain a consistent approach in recruitment, development, and match performance."
