Former Manchester United manager Amorim has officially taken over AC Milan, with both sides expected to reach a 3+1 contract agreement.

AC Milan officially announced on Tuesday that former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has taken over the first team, effective immediately. The two sides expect him to sign a contract until 2029, with an option to extend for another year.

According to Italian journalist Matteo Moreto, Amorim will receive an annual after-tax salary of slightly over 4 million euros in Milan.

The 41-year-old Amorim began his coaching career at Casapia and subsequently rose to prominence in Portuguese football. As an outstanding representative of Portugal's young generation of coaches, he has led Braga and Sporting CP to two Portuguese Primeira Liga titles, three Portuguese League Cup titles, and one Portuguese Super Cup title.

In November 2024, Amorim officially succeeded Eric Ten Hag as Manchester United manager. He managed the club for approximately two years, during which time he achieved a record of 20 wins, 9 draws, and 21 losses.

Regarding the appointment, Gri Caldinale, founder and managing partner of AC Milan's parent company, Cardinalo, said: "We have been following Ruben for many years. His coaching experience at Sporting Lisbon was impressive and reflected the style of play we are looking for. He is one of the most capable and innovative members of the new generation of coaches in Europe – young, ambitious, and possessing a distinct modern style of football characterized by possession-based dominance, a modern high-pressing system, and clear tactical thinking."

"Ruben believes in high-pressing, attacking football and creating more scoring opportunities through rapid transitions between attack and defense. His coaching philosophy aligns perfectly with our vision, and we are impressed by his leadership and achievements in developing players. We have full confidence in Ruben and warmly welcome him to the club."

Amorim added: “Coaching AC Milan has always been one of my dreams. I am very aware of the weight of this club; it has a long history, a prestigious reputation, and a global fan base. I will embrace this challenge with pride and enthusiasm because I know what Milan represents. I can’t wait to start working and experience the passion that AC Milan brings every day.”
