Dutch defender Robert van Heik has officially joined Tottenham Hotspur and signed a long-term contract. Van Heik said he is very happy to join the team and looks forward to making his home debut.
The 26-year-old Van Heck previously played for Brighton, making 36 appearances in the 2025/26 Premier League season, contributing 3 goals and 3 assists. In addition, Van Heck recently represented the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, starting in the group stage match against Japan.
Besides Van Heck, other recent signings at Tottenham Hotspur include Scotland captain Andrew Robertson and former Bournemouth defender Senesi.
In an interview, Van Heck said, "I am very much looking forward to playing for Tottenham Hotspur because it is a great club and it would be a huge honor for me to join the team. I have been very impressed with both the club's management and the manager. De Zerby is someone I have known since my time at Brighton, and we had a very good working relationship, so I have a very good relationship with him."
“Van der Wen also told me a lot about the club, and he was very happy when he learned that I wanted to join. He sincerely told me that it is a great club with very enthusiastic fans and many excellent people. Therefore, I now have a very good impression of the club, and I am very much looking forward to meeting everyone.”
Van Heck continued, "I consider myself a player who gives his all and is fully committed on the pitch. I will strive to win every game, every tackle, and every challenge. I believe I also have an advantage in ball control, the ability to deliver penetrating passes, actively organize attacks, and get the ball behind the opponent's defense."
"I hope to become a defender who not only has excellent footwork skills, but also truly loves defense, is aggressive, and dares to actively press the opponent."
In addition, Van Heck said, "I am very excited to join this club, and I can't wait to make my first game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium."
“I used to play there as an opponent, but now I will stand with the fans and fight for this team. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone.”
