Werder Bremen have confirmed a contract extension with Michel Wiesel, meaning the player, whose original contract expired on June 30, will continue to play for the club. The club has reached an agreement with the 32-year-old on the extension, continuing their partnership. The news was officially announced on Saturday by Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football.
Peter Niemeyer said: "We are delighted to continue working with Michel Wiesel. The club has always had great faith in his abilities and believes that he will provide important support to the team with his creativity in the new season after recovering from his knee injury."
Head coach Daniel Tiune said: "In my opinion, Michel Wiese is almost a new signing. We expect him to return to his best level after recovering from injury. His technical ability is excellent and will have a positive impact on the team."
For Mitchell Wiesel, this summer signifies a fresh start. After recovering from a cruciate ligament injury, he will begin preparations for the new season in Werder Bremen. He stated, "I'm looking forward to the new season and am happy to continue my journey in Werder Bremen. I can't wait to get back on the pitch and play for the fans. I've missed these moments very much over the past year."
Mitchell Wiesel joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 and completed the permanent transfer the following year. To date, he has made 123 official appearances for the team, scoring 14 goals and providing 29 assists. However, due to a cruciate ligament injury last season, he did not play any matches for the team.
