Angers triggered Ajax defensive midfielder Branco van den Boomen's buy-out clause..

Angers announced on their official website on Sunday that they have triggered the buy-out clause of on-loan Ajax Dutch defensive midfielder Branco van den Boomen.

According to Angers' official statement, van den Boomen has signed on a three-year contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.

About Branco van den Boomen

The 30-year-old van den Boomen was born on July 21, 1995, in Veldhoven, Netherlands. He is 1.88 meters tall and primarily plays as a defensive midfielder.

Van den Boomen played for the youth academies of Willem II and RKC Waalwijk before joining Ajax's youth academy in 2011. He began playing for Ajax's reserve team in November of the following year.

In the summer of 2014, after his contract expired, van den Boomen joined Eindhoven on a free transfer, and then joined Heerenveen the following year for €450,000.

Due to lackluster performances, Van den Boomen was loaned back to Willem II in August 2016, but this did not significantly improve his situation.

After returning to the club in 2017 following his loan spell, Van den Boomen terminated his contract with Heerenveen and then returned to Eindhoven as a free agent. 

After several years of struggling, Van den Boomen returned to his former club and began to showcase his long-awaited potential, becoming the top assist provider in the Eerte Divisie for two consecutive years.

In the summer of 2019, Van den Boomen briefly joined De Graafschap for €350,000.

Courtesy of his excellent performances, Van den Boomen joined Toulouse the following August for another €350,000.

During his three-year spell at Toulouse, Van den Boomen won one Ligue 2 title and one Coupe de France.

After his contract expired in the summer of 2023, Van den Boomen returned to Ajax as a free agent.

However, due to the Eredivisie giant's overall poor performances, Van den Boomen's playing time gradually decreased significantly.

In January 2026, Van den Boomen joined Angers on-loan.

Since joining Angers, so far, Van den Boomen has made 15 appearances for the Ligue 1 club in all competitions, providing one assist.
