The Wizards have locked in their future core player, AJ Dibissa, as the 2026 NBA Draft's number one pick.

June 24th - According to NBA reports, the Washington Wizards selected AJ DiBanssa with the first overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft , becoming the biggest winner of this draft class.

Dibbanza beat Kansas guard Darin Peterson and Duke forward Cameron Boozer to become the first player selected in the 2026 draft class. Peterson was subsequently selected second overall by the Utah Jazz, while Boozer joined the Memphis Grizzlies third overall.

" Entering the NBA has always been my dream since I was a child, and I can't wait to start this new journey, " Dibanza said in an interview.

Dibanza averaged 25.5 points per game during his college season, with two 40+ point games . He scored 43 points against Utah and 40 points in a Big 12 tournament victory over Kansas State University .

During the playoffs, Dibanza demonstrated his dominance, scoring a total of 93 points in three games, breaking Kevin Durant 's league championship scoring record and solidifying his position as the number one draft pick.
