Reeves to sign 4-year, $185 million contract, Lakers complete key extension

June 25 - According to ESPN , Lakers guard Austin Reeves plans to sign a four- year , $ 185 million maximum contract with the team, with a player option in the final year.

Previously, Reeves declined a $ 14.9 million player option to secure this new contract . This contract also makes him the highest-paid undrafted player in NBA history.

It is reported that the Lakers and Reeves' team have been in negotiations for the past 10 days. The Lakers management considers re-signing Reeves a top priority this summer, while Reeves himself has always wanted to stay in Los Angeles long-term.

"He wants to spend his entire career with the Lakers; nothing is more important than winning a championship for this city," an insider said.

Lakers President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka previously stated that Reeves' return was a key offseason goal for the team: " He started his career as a Laker and has always wanted to stay here. "

Last season, Reeves averaged 23.3 points, 5.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game, shooting 49% from the field and 36% from three-point range . However, due to calf and oblique injuries, he only played 51 games. But after returning in the playoffs, he still averaged 20 points and 5.8 assists per game.
