Trae Young signed a four-year, $212 million contract extension with the Wizards. June 25th - According to ESPN, free agent Trae Young plans to sign a four-year, approximately $212 million contract extension with a player option for the fourth year.

In January of this year, Trae Young clearly expressed his desire to be traded to the Wizards, and ultimately joined them. Now, with his contract extension, he further demonstrates his commitment to staying in Washington long-term. The Wizards' management hopes he can mentor a group of young core players, including Alex Sal, Keishaon George, Trae Johnson, Will Riley, and Bubba Carrington.

Looking back at last season, Trae Young suffered a right MCL sprain in Game 5 and didn't return until mid- December . The Hawks then traded Young to the Wizards in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert . Hampered by the injury, Young only played 15 games last season , averaging a combined 17.9 points and 8.0 assists for both the Hawks and Wizards.

“You could see his impact in the few games Trae Young played; he draws defense and frees up his teammates,” Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said. “We’re looking for players who are eager to stay in Washington, willing to fight alongside us, and full of fighting spirit, and that’s exactly where we’re betting.”
