Julian Nagelsmann: We started well, but then the team gradually lost the stability of our overall formation.

In the third round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, Germany lost 1-2 to Ecuador, but the defeat did not change their final ranking in the group. After the match, head coach Julian Nagelsmann and the players reviewed and summarized the game.  

After the match, Julian Nagelsmann said, "We played quite well at the beginning and should have continued to press forward with even greater determination, but then the team gradually lost its formation. The opponent's equalizer came from a mistake on our part, and at the same time, our overall positioning was too deep."  

"We made several adjustments in the second half because we knew the players' stamina was starting to decline, and we also maintained our trust in all the players on the roster. Ecuador put in all their energy in this match, which was very evident from the start; they showed a great deal of urgency on the field."  

Joshua Kimmich said: "We started well, but then conceded too many goals, which allowed the opponent to gradually get into the game and build confidence. The result in the second half was reasonable. We really wanted to win the game, but we can't concede one or two goals in every game. At the same time, we must try to reduce unnecessary mistakes."  

Deniz Wendav said, "I felt that our opponents were more eager to win than we were. They were tougher in their tackles and commitments, and won more duels, while we never really got into the rhythm of the game. Ecuador held on until the very last moment, which may have been the key factor in deciding the outcome of the match. We must better adapt to this intensity of the game and learn from it."  

Jamal Musiala stated, "Our opponents showed a stronger desire to win and applied constant pressure with high intensity and aggression. We were able to learn a lot from this match and prepare for the crucial stages ahead. These kinds of games are vital for all teams, and we cannot blame the pitch conditions on the problems."
