June 28 - According to the Associated Press, the Charlotte Hornets and the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached a trade agreement. The Hornets sent their star guard LaMelo Ball and forward Josh Green to the Timberwolves in exchange for center Naz Reed and several future draft picks.
According to sources, the trade includes an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, a swap of three first-round picks in 2028, 2029, and 2030, and three future second-round picks in 2029, 2032, and 2033.
LaMelo Ball , 24 , was the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft . He was an All-Star in 2022. While he has struggled with ankle and foot injuries for the past few seasons, he played 72 games last season, averaging 20.1 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.
Ball made 272 three-pointers last season , ranking second in the league, behind only his rookie teammate, Comen Knupper. With his ability to drive and orchestrate the offense, his passing vision, and his signature step-back three-pointer, he remains one of the league's most dangerous offensive point guards.
For the Timberwolves, the team traded away key player Naz Reed . The 26- year-old Reed had played for the Timberwolves since 2019 and won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in the 2023-24 season. Last season, Reed played 77 games, averaging 13.6 points and 6.2 rebounds. He possesses outside shooting and driving ability, making him an important offensive weapon for the Timberwolves.
