South Africa's head coach, Broos, announced: "This is my last World Cup."

In a World Cup knockout match in Los Angeles, South Africa suffered a heartbreaking 0-1 defeat after Canada's Stephen Eustachio scored a last-minute winner in the 92nd minute.

Although they failed to advance further, this World Cup journey has already set a milestone for South African football. This is the first time in their history that they have successfully advanced from the group stage to the round of 32.

This defeat also means that 74-year-old Belgian coach Hugo Broos has completed his final farewell on the World Cup stage.

Bross participated in the 1986 World Cup as a player, and his career as a player and coach has spanned more than 50 years. He has long expressed his desire to return to Belgium to be with his family.

Although Bross clearly stated that this tournament would be his last, he did not immediately announce after the match whether he would resign as head coach of the South African national team. In an interview, he admitted, "It would be unwise to make a decision when I'm feeling disappointed."

Since taking over as coach of the South African national team in 2021, Bros has focused on a squad primarily composed of players from the local league, successfully transforming a team that had missed the World Cup since 2010 into a disciplined and formidable force.

In this tournament, South Africa showed resilience despite losing 0-2 to Mexico in their first match and having two players sent off. They then drew 1-1 with the Czech Republic and defeated South Korea 1-0, achieving a feat that had not been accomplished in 1998, 2002 and 2010.
