Koeman resigns as Netherlands national team coach; player who missed penalty kick faces online harassment.

Following the Netherlands' defeat to Morocco in the World Cup knockout stage, head coach Ronald Koeman officially announced his resignation and hinted at a possible retirement. The 63-year-old coach cited family and health reasons for leaving his position.

Koeman released a statement on social media saying: "Last night I made the decision to end my tenure as head coach of the Netherlands national team. We all dreamed of making history at this World Cup, but we failed. No one is more disappointed than me. As head coach, the responsibility ultimately lies with me."

At the same time, Koeman also revealed that his wife was battling an illness, which made him realize that health is priceless, and he expressed his heartfelt gratitude for his wife's support.

In an interview, Nigel de Jong, the technical director of the Dutch Football Association, bluntly stated regarding this World Cup: "Our goal is to reach the semi-finals, and our ambition is to become world champions."

"Unfortunately, we did not achieve this goal. Yes, we are still far from it. That's the conclusion, and we must be honest about it."

Beyond the loss, even worse incidents unfolded after the match. Patrick Kluivert, Jorian Timber, and Christencio Somerville, the three players who failed to score in the penalty shootout, were subjected to severe racist abuse online.

In response, the Dutch Football Association issued a stern statement: "We are appalled by this behavior and will file a complaint with the online discrimination reporting center."

The Football Association emphasized that once legal personnel assess that it constitutes a crime, the case will be transferred to the prosecutor's office to initiate a criminal investigation, and reiterated that discrimination runs counter to everything that football represents.
