Shams: Harris joins the Spurs on a 2-year, $31 million contract; the contract does not include player or team options.

According to a report by ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday, the San Antonio Spurs have reached a two-year, $31 million contract agreement with free agent Tobias Harris. The contract is expected to be fully guaranteed and contains no player or team options.

Harris is a 2.03-meter tall, 103-kilogram forward who entered the NBA in 2011 as the 19th overall pick in the first round. During his career, he played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers, appearing in a total of 897 regular season games. He averaged 16.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, with a field goal percentage of 47.8% and a three-point percentage of 36.8%.

In July 2024, Harris returned to the Pistons on a two-year, $52 million contract. To date, he has played 136 regular season games for the Pistons, averaging 13.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 29.8 minutes per game, successfully leading a once-bottom-ranked team back into contention.

Harris also played 20 games for the Pistons in the playoffs, averaging 17.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He played a crucial role in the Pistons' run to the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, but the Pistons ultimately lost 3-4 to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

For the Spurs, Harris's arrival is a timely boon. Although he will turn 34 in mid-month, his solid shooting ability and low-post back-to-the-basket skills are expected to provide the Spurs with immediate impact.

In terms of roster configuration, Harris is highly compatible with key players such as Victor Wahlbanama, Stephen Castle, Dylan Harper, and De'Aaron Fox. In the Spurs' tactical plan, he will work with Julian Champagne to create space on the court and generate more second-chance opportunities.

Following the acquisition of Harris, the Spurs plan to further strengthen their roster using the full mid-level exception. Multiple sources have revealed that they have listed Rui Hachimura and John Collins as potential targets.
