Rennes France international defender wonderkid Jérémy Jacquet officially joins Liverpool..

Liverpool announced on their official website on Wednesday that Rennes' France international defender wonderkid Jérémy Jacquet has officially joined the club.

According to Liverpool's official statement, Jacquet has signed on a long-term five-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2031, with an option to extend for a further year.

After completing the transfer procedures, Jacquet, who was interviewed by the Liverpool official website for the first time, said: "I feel great, my first impressions are fantastic, and I'm delighted to start my career here."

"I'm very happy. When I saw the facilities here, I felt like I belonged. I feel great and very excited to start my journey here."

"It's a great dream for me, it's a great club. Joining a legendary club like Liverpool is a great dream moment for me."

"The football philosophy and development plans here deeply attract me, and I want to be a part of the club's glorious history. My family and I believe we made the right choice, and we are very happy here."

It's worth mentioning that Liverpool had actually already announced Jacquet's summer signing on the 2026 winter transfer window deadline day. 

According to reports at the time, the Premier League giants paid Rennes an initial fee of €60 million, plus €12 million in performance-related bonuses, for a total transfer fee of €72 million to successfully sign Jacquet.

About Jérémy Jacquet

Jacquet, who is only still 20 years old, was born on July 13, 2005, in Bondy, a northeastern suburb of Paris, France. He is 1.88 meters tall, plays as a center-back, and has Guadeloupe heritage.

As a child, Jacques played in the youth academy of a local non-league club in Guadeloupe. He joined Rennes' youth academy in 2019, began playing for their B team in 2022, before completing his Rennes first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in January 2024.

Two weeks later, Jacquet was loaned-out to Clermont Foot. However, after only two weeks, he was recalled by Rennes due to his excellent performances and the team's injury crisis.

After his loan spell ended and he returned to the team, Jacquet officially became a regular starter for Rennes' first team.

During his time there, his outstanding performances immediately attracted fierce competition for his transfer from Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool.

During his two-year spell with Les Rouge et Noirs, Jacquet made 33 appearances for the Ligue 1 powerhouse in all competitions, providing one assist.
