The Trail Blazers later confirmed the news and posted "12 becomes 1" on social media, symbolizing Morant's new beginning.
Ten players in Portland Trail Blazers history have worn the number 1 jersey, with Blake Wesley being the last player to wear it last season. Anfernee Simmons (2020-2025) and Evan Turner (2017-2019) also wore the number 1 jersey.
Last season, Morant played only 20 games (the second fewest of his career), averaging 19.5 points per game, his lowest scoring average since the 2020-21 season. Now, he will don a new jersey and strive to restart his career with the Trail Blazers.
