Arsenal are set to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Melier.

Premier League giants Arsenal are close to finalizing the signing of goalkeeper Iran Melier. The 26-year-old Frenchman's contract with Leeds United expires this summer, and he will join the Gunners on a free transfer.

It is understood that Arsenal's interest in Melier was first reported by the BBC on June 30. An agreement has now been formally reached between the two sides.

On Tuesday, Melier and his agent team traveled to Arsenal's training centre in Hertfordshire to finalize the contract details of the transfer and undergo a medical examination arranged by the club. Melier, who had previously lost his starting position at Leeds United, will begin a new chapter in his career with this free transfer to Arsenal.

Arsenal's move to acquire a goalkeeper is primarily aimed at addressing personnel changes in their defense. With the future of their current second-choice goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, uncertain for next season, Arsenal have been forced to enter the transfer market early to explore alternative options.

According to the current team plan, after joining the team, Melier will temporarily serve as the team's third-choice goalkeeper, behind David Raya and Kepa.

However, if Kepa ultimately chooses to leave this summer, Melier will naturally be promoted to the team's second-choice goalkeeper. With Melier's imminent arrival, Arsenal's young goalkeeper Tommy Settford will also be loaned out this summer to gain more playing experience.
