July 8th - According to ESPN , three-time MVP Nikola Jokic has confirmed his desire to remain with the Denver Nuggets. However, he plans to postpone his contract extension decision until next summer to sign a new contract.
In an interview after participating in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers , Jokic stated, " My thought and wish is to stay in Denver. I might sign a contract next year. I hope to play in Denver for the rest of my life. "
Jokic currently has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Nuggets, with the final year being a player option. He was already eligible to sign a four- year, $ 278 million maximum contract extension.
If Jokic chooses to wait until the summer of 2027 to sign, he will have the opportunity to receive a five- year, $ 359.5 million supermax contract. According to ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks , this contract would become the largest in NBA history, bringing Jokic's career earnings to approximately $ 724 million.
In the 2025-26 season, Jokic averaged 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game, shooting 56.9% from the field , achieving his second career triple-double average. However, the Nuggets lost to the Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs, failing to advance past the Western Conference semifinals for the second consecutive year since their 2023 championship win.
