England are about to face Norway in the World Cup quarter-finals in Miami, but the team is currently facing a serious crisis at right-back.
During Wednesday's training session, starting right-back Reece James was unable to train with the team due to an unhealed hamstring injury and could only do rehabilitation training on his own.
James has been sidelined since his injury in the second group stage game. Although he had previously set his sights on returning in the quarterfinals, it remains highly uncertain whether he will be able to play in Saturday's game.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel has no one available for this position. Jarrell Kwansa, who previously replaced James in the starting lineup, was sent off with a red card in the match against Mexico and will be suspended for the match against Norway.
Besides James, Declan Rice and Mark Guiayi also trained separately on Wednesday, but neither of their injuries are serious. Rice has been playing through injury, while Guiayi only has muscle fatigue; they are likely to remain in the games.
In addition, veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson, who underwent surgery in Mexico City for a severe arm fracture, has returned to the England camp in Kansas City. Although he may not be able to play again, he has chosen to stay with the team, using his experience and leadership to support his teammates.
The England team has taken a break after their grueling victory in Mexico. Teammate Morgan Rodgers stated in an interview that the team's long-term home base in Kansas City made them feel comfortable and relaxed, giving England an advantage in physical recovery compared to Norway, who frequently travel to different match cities.
