Newcastle United officially announce the signing of Ajax's Netherlands U18s international midfielder wonderkid Sean Steur..

Newcastle United announced on their official website on Thursday that they have signed Netherlands U18s international midfielder wonderkid Sean Steur from Ajax.

According to Newcastle's official statement, Steur has signed on a long-term five-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2031, with an option to extend for another year. He will also wear the number 14 shirt which was vacated after Sweden international striker Alexander Isak had moved to Liverpool.

Furthermore, according to Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies paid Ajax over €25 million to acquire Steur.

Several clubs from Germany and Spain expressed interest in Steur during the process, but he ultimately chose to join Newcastle United.

After completing his transfer, Steur, who was interviewed by the Newcastle United official website for the first time, said: "It feels amazing to be here. Newcastle United is one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, and it's always been my dream to play in the best league in the world, so this really excites me."

"I've felt at home at Ajax; I joined them when I was seven and left with only fond memories. But when a club like Newcastle United extends an offer, it's really hard to refuse. These days have flown by, and I'm thrilled to join them."

About Sean Steur

Steur, who is only still 18 years old, was born on January 11, 2008, in Purmerend, Netherlands. He is 1.83 meters tall and primarily plays as a center midfielder, but can also play as an attacking midfielder or defensive midfielder. His father, Johan, is a legendary goalkeeper at Volendam and currently serves as the club's goalkeeping coach and scout. His brother, Roy, is also a goalkeeper at the club.

Steur also played for Volendam's youth academy as a child, but joined Ajax's youth academy in 2016, before completing his Ajax first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in February 2025.

During his time at de Godenzonen, Steur made 26 appearances for the Eredivisie giants in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
