Gerard Martin was saddened by Lewandowski's departure from Barcelona.

Barcelona defender Gerard Martin spoke about Lewandowski in an interview and expressed his sadness over the Polish star's departure from Barcelona.

The 37-year-old Lewandowski joined Barcelona in July 2022 and has played a key role ever since, helping the club win three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey title, and three Spanish Super Cup titles.

After achieving the goal of defending the La Liga title with Barcelona in the 2025/26 season, Lewandowski officially left the team and joined MLS club Chicago Fire at the end of June.

Gerard Martin, 24, said, "It's really sad that Lewandowski is leaving because he was a very experienced player. He joined the team when it was a difficult time for the club and always tried to convey his training attitude and spirit to everyone. We will all miss him very much. He contributed so much to the team over the past few years."

“When I practice crossing, he tells me how to observe his movement in the penalty area and how to pass the ball to the most suitable position based on his movement.”

Gerard Martin said, "Rafinha is playing the role of captain, but we don't necessarily need a fixed leader because every player on the team has a strong sense of responsibility and knows what they should do."

Following their La Liga title win, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and the players have stated that the team will consider the Champions League title as a more significant goal next season.

Gerard Martin stated, "If we use this goal as a positive motivation, then of course there's no problem. However, we can't focus solely on winning the Champions League, otherwise other aspects will be affected. We must continue to maintain a consistent performance in La Liga. We certainly hope to win the Champions League, and the team is improving every year. Hopefully, the new season will be the year we achieve our goal."

"In this level of competition, the outcome is often determined by the smallest details, and we must perform even better in crucial moments. The team has been doing very well, and we will strive to achieve this goal with the greatest competitiveness."
