Rodri wins the World Cup Golden Ball, signaling his return to the top.

In the World Cup final, Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 to win their second Men's World Cup title. Spain's midfield maestro and captain, Rodri, was awarded the tournament's Golden Ball for his outstanding performance.

Rodri, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2024, suffered a severe injury nearly two years ago, tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This World Cup Golden Ball trophy not only witnessed his team's glory in winning the championship, but also heralded his official return to the pinnacle of international football.

Rodri thus became the 11th male footballer in history to win the World Cup, the Champions League, and the Ballon d'Or.

"This team is incredible. We are two-time world champions. This is an extremely difficult achievement, especially considering we won against a strong team like Argentina," Rodri said excitedly in the post-match interview.

Speaking about his recovery from a serious injury and his championship win, Rodri said emotionally, "I'm very proud, and I hope the next generation can see that it's possible. A player who once reached for the sky and then fell into hell can also rise again. This is an example of overcoming adversity; you have to keep believing. Honestly, it's incredible."

Although the Manchester City midfielder didn't score in this World Cup, his precise passing and control of the game's tempo and possession made him the absolute tactical core of the champion Spanish team. In the individual awards competition, Argentine superstar Lionel Messi ultimately won the Silver Ball, while French striker Kylian Mbappé won the Bronze Ball.
