Abdul Fatau has officially joined Ipswich Town and signed a five-year contract with the club.

Ipswich Town have officially confirmed the signing of Abdel Fattah al-Fatou, the Ghanaian winger from Leicester City. A long-term agreement has been reached, running until the summer of 2031. The transfer fee has not yet been disclosed. The 22-year-old Fatou represented Ghana at the World Cup this summer, making appearances in all four of their matches, including a group stage game against England. To date, he has made 32 appearances for Ghana, scoring three goals.  

In terms of club experience, Abdel Fattah previously played for Sporting Lisbon, where he made his Champions League debut. He then moved to Leicester City, helping the team achieve promotion back to the Premier League, and subsequently represented the club in the top flight. During the 2025/26 season, Abdel Fattah made 44 appearances in all competitions, contributing 9 goals.  

After completing the transfer formalities, Abdel Fattah will depart for La Manga, Spain this week to join the Ipswich Town team, who are currently training there for preseason. Speaking about joining his new club, the Ghanaian winger said: "It is a great honor to be a part of Ipswich Town. The club has an attractive development plan, and I am very much looking forward to being involved and preparing for the upcoming Premier League season with the team."

Since arriving in England, I’ve faced Ipswich Town several times and have some understanding of the passion of the fans here. Ipswich Town manager Gary O'Neill said: "Although Abdel Fattah is still young, he already has a wealth of professional experience, and we are very much looking forward to his arrival. He possesses excellent physical attributes and technical characteristics, outstanding footwork, and is extremely threatening when taking on defenders one-on-one. We believe his arrival will enrich the team's tactical options in attack. He has just finished the World Cup and is ready to return to training as soon as possible to prepare for the upcoming Premier League season."  

Abdel Fattah was born in Tamalli, Ghana, and initially began his football career with local club Stedefast. In October 2021, he joined Ghanaian Premier League team Dream FC on loan, where his outstanding performance attracted the attention of European clubs. The following year, he transferred to Sporting Lisbon, officially beginning his overseas career, and even played in the Champions League with the team.  

In the 2023/24 season, Abdel Fattah joined Leicester City on loan and helped the team win the Championship title, successfully returning to the Premier League. That season, he also helped Ipswich Town achieve promotion. Based on his outstanding performances, Abdel Fattah was ultimately named Leicester City's Young Player of the Year. During the 2024/25 season, despite being plagued by injuries, he still made 11 appearances for the team in the Premier League. Last season, he gradually regained his best form, contributing 9 goals in all competitions.  

In terms of national team experience, Abdel Fattah helped Ghana's U20 national team win the Africa U20 Championship in 2021 and was named the tournament's best player. That same year, he made his senior national team debut for Ghana. He was subsequently selected for Ghana's 2022 Qatar World Cup squad, making one appearance. This summer, he again represented Ghana at the CONCACAF World Cup, playing in all four matches, further enriching his international tournament experience.
