The Rockets officially announced the extension of Tate's contract for a seventh season in Houston.

July 24th - The Houston Rockets officially announced that they have re-signed forward Jay Tate. Tate joined the Rockets as an undrafted free agent on November 25, 2020, and will now be playing his seventh season with the team.

Last season, Tate played 46 games for the Rockets, averaging 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. His field goal percentage was 51.4%, a career high, and he only committed 16 turnovers in 405 minutes of playing time, demonstrating consistent efficiency.

With the new season approaching, Tate will join the ranks of the few players in Rockets history to have played at least seven seasons. Currently, only 15 players in franchise history have achieved this feat, including current center Clint Capela.

Furthermore, Tate is the third most-played undrafted player in Rockets history, with 342 games played, behind only Matt Brad (538 games) and Chuck Hayes (426 games). Moses Malone, while also undrafted, entered the league through the ABA disbandment draft.

He played for Ohio State University during his time at Tate, and after the 2017-18 season, he played in leagues in Belgium and Australia. In the 2020-21 season, he officially entered the NBA and became the first Rockets player since Luis Scola to be selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
