Cologne officially announced the signing of Australian international Paul O'Connor-Ernstler on a four-year contract.

FC Köln announced on Thursday that Australian midfielder Paul O'Connor-Ensterer has joined the club from Sydney FC. The two sides signed a four-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.

The official confirmation also states that Ocon Engström will wear the number 23 jersey for Cologne. According to the German newspaper Bild, his transfer fee is €1 million.

Ocon Ernstler, 21, developed through the youth academies of Club Brugge and Benfica, and will make his professional debut for Sydney FC in the Australian Cup on July 29, 2025. To date, he has made 30 appearances for Sydney FC and provided 2 assists.

Ocon Ernstler was also a member of the Australian national team for the 2026 World Cup. He played 4 matches and provided 1 assist during the World Cup, but Australia ultimately lost to Egypt on penalties and were eliminated in the round of 32.

Regarding the signing, Cologne General Manager Thomas Kessler explained: "We are delighted that Paul has decided to join Cologne Football Club. He is a young player with great potential who has made remarkable progress in recent years. Thanks to his outstanding performance at Sydney FC, he was selected for the Australian national team and showcased his growth on the World Cup stage."
