Klopp appointed as head coach of the German national team

The German Football Association has officially announced the appointment of Jürgen Klopp as the head coach of the German national team, marking Klopp's first time coaching a national team.

In the 2026 World Cup, Germany, led by Nagelsmann, successfully advanced to the round of 32. However, in a key match of the round of 32, Germany equalized the score in regular time thanks to a goal from Havertz, but then lost 3-4 to Panama in a hard-fought penalty shootout, failing to advance to the round of 16.

Not long after, Nagelsmann stepped down as head coach.

In an interview, 59-year-old new German coach Jurgen Klopp said, "It is a huge honor for me to be standing here. Everything that has happened in the past few days is like a movie, and it feels a bit unbelievable."

“For many years, I didn’t think I would take this position. But as time went on, I became more and more aware that sooner or later I would receive this invitation. Now I think the time is right, and I want to thank everyone who made it possible.”

Jurgen Klopp, from Germany, managed Liverpool for nine years, leading the Reds to their first-ever Premier League title, as well as two League Cup titles, one FA Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, and one Champions League title, among other important accolades.

Klopp continued, "We are now facing a mission, and my mission is to make the German national team stronger. I came here for this team."

"After coaching the German national team, I will not plan any other coaching career. Being the national team coach is the pinnacle of my coaching career."
