Sources say Leeds United are close to signing Manchester City goalkeeper Trafford for £40 million.

Sources have revealed that Leeds United have begun active negotiations with Manchester City and are very close to signing 23-year-old England international goalkeeper James Trafford for an initial transfer fee of £40 million.

With first-choice goalkeeper Iran Melier leaving for Arsenal and backup goalkeeper Diogo Dalot joining Manchester United, Leeds United desperately need to strengthen their goalkeeping position. Despite strong interest from Premier League clubs such as Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Aston Villa in the race for Trafford, Leeds United currently hold a commanding lead.

For Trafford, joining Elland Road means more guaranteed playing time. After returning to Manchester City from Burnley, Trafford only made four Premier League appearances last season as Gianluigi Donnarumma secured a regular starting position.

However, Trafford performed exceptionally well in cup competitions, winning both the League Cup and FA Cup as the team's starting goalkeeper.
