Newcastle United have officially announced a contract extension with England winger Harvey Barnes, who will continue to represent the club at St. James' Park. Barnes joined Newcastle from Leicester City in the summer of 2023 with two years remaining on his original contract. He has now opted for a new long-term agreement to continue his career at Newcastle United.
Last season, Harvey Barnes had one of the most outstanding performances since joining Newcastle United. In the 2025/26 season, he made 57 appearances for the team in all competitions, contributing 16 goals, breaking his personal single-season goal record. Thanks to his consistently strong performances, Harvey Barnes was called up to the England national team again in March, making his debut in a friendly against Uruguay at Wembley Stadium, marking his return to the England jersey after nearly six years.
Harvey Barnes, 28, has already left an impressive record at Newcastle United. To date, he has made 120 appearances for the team, scoring 30 goals, demonstrating consistent and efficient attacking prowess, averaging a goal every four games. In addition to his consistent output, Barnes' decisive role in crucial moments is also remarkable. Earlier this year, he scored the winning goal in the 102nd minute of a home game against Leeds United, securing three points for Newcastle and setting a new Premier League record for the latest winning goal.
After signing his contract extension, Harvey Barnes said: “I’m very happy to have secured my future before the start of the new season. This experience has been incredibly meaningful to me, and I look forward to continuing to write my own Newcastle United story. When I first arrived here, I quickly felt the special atmosphere of the club, and after living and playing here for three years, that feeling has only deepened. I love this city, this stadium, and everyone who supports me, and I’m delighted to continue being a part of it.”
“Over the past few years, I have experienced many successes and witnessed many unforgettable moments with the team. We all hope to create more wonderful memories in the future, and my goal is to continue to play my part in helping the club grow and move towards higher goals.”
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe said: "Harvey Barnes absolutely deserves this new contract. It is the best recognition of his hard work and consistently high level of performance at the club over the past three seasons. He is a player who can step up in crucial moments, always making decisive contributions to the team and creating unforgettable moments."
“Harvey Barnes has shown remarkable composure in attack, capable of creating threats whether facing one-on-one opportunities or attempting long-range shots. He also consistently puts pressure on opponents on the flanks. He already possesses extensive top-flight experience, but we believe his potential extends far beyond that, and he will continue to grow and improve in the future.”
Newcastle United sporting director Ross Wilson said: "Harvey Barnes' statistics during his time at the club have fully demonstrated his value. Last season, he made significant breakthroughs on an individual level, which stemmed not only from his ability but also from the attitude and professionalism he displayed in daily training and matches. We believe he will play an important role in the team's future development plans, so extending his contract and securing his long-term future is a very correct decision."
“Everyone knows Harvey Barnes’ ability on the pitch and recognizes his excellent qualities off the pitch. He is now focusing on preparations for the new season, and I believe he will build on his past achievements, continue to improve himself, and help Newcastle United achieve more breakthroughs in the future.”
