Argentine midfield starlet Amondaran has officially joined Bologna and will wear the number 8 jersey.

Bologna officially announced on Wednesday that Mikel Amondaran has joined the club from Estudiantes de La Plata. The two sides signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.

The official announcement also confirmed that Amondaran will wear the number 8 jersey for Bologna. With Amondaran's arrival, Bologna welcomes its 17th Argentine player in the club's history.

Other reports indicate that Amondaran's transfer fee was €10 million plus €2 million in add-ons. Furthermore, Estudiantes de La Plata retained a 10% cut of any potential second transfer fee.

The 21-year-old Amondaran primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, but can also play as a central midfielder, right midfielder, attacking midfielder, and right winger. He developed through the Estudiantes de La Plata youth academy and made his professional debut on July 26, 2025, in the Argentine Apertura.

To date, Amondalán has made 41 appearances for Estudiantes de La Plata, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists. His greatest achievement with Estudiantes de La Plata will undoubtedly be winning the Argentine Apertura title and the Argentine Professional League Cup in 2025.

Before joining Bologna, Amondaran had been linked with several top European clubs, including Hull City, Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, and RB Leipzig. His final choice of Bologna as the next stage of his career was primarily due to the development opportunities the club offered to young players.

After completing the transfer, Amondaran bid a heartfelt farewell to Estudiantes de La Plata via his personal social media platform. He wrote: "Today, I have to say goodbye to the club that nurtured me. It not only developed my football skills but also shaped my character."

“I want to thank everyone who has worked hard for the club; it is you who make the club so unique. I am very grateful to the administrators, chefs, coaching staff, management, physiotherapists, and all my teammates who have fought alongside me.”

"Thank you to my family for being there for me during my most difficult time."

"My fondest memories will stay with me forever. Thank you for everything!"
