Lille completes contract extension with Algeria international midfielder Nabil Bentaleb..

Lille announced on their official website on Saturday that they have extended the contract of its Algeria international midfielder Nabil Bentaleb.

According to Lille's official statement, Bentaleb has signed on a new two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2028.

After completing his contract extension procedures, Bentaleb, who was interviewed by the Lille official website again, said: "I'm delighted to continue my journey at Lille. Staying here is crucial for me. The club, the president, and I share a common goal; we are all determined to achieve great things."

"Lille gave me the opportunity to continue playing, so staying at Lille is only natural for me. I'm incredibly proud of that. I can't wait to return to the team and work with the new coaching staff. I'm eager to get back on the pitch."

About Nabil Bentaleb

The 31-year-old Bentaleb was born in Lille, France on November 24, 1994. He is 1.87 meters tall and primarily plays as a center midfielder, but he can also play as a defensive midfielder or attacking midfielder. He has dual nationalities of France and Algeria.

Bentaleb joined the Lille youth academy at the age of 10, then briefly played for the Mouscron youth academy and the Dunkerque youth academy at the age of 15. He joined the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy in January 2012 and completed his Tottenham Hotspur first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in December of the following year.

During his 4-year spell with Spurs, Bentaleb reached the English League Cup final once with the club with his good performances.

In August 2016, Bentaleb was loaned-out to Schalke 04, and his ownership was bought out by Schalke 04 for 19 million in February of the following year.

After joining Schalke 04, due to the club's extremely poor overall form, Bentaleb, who was dissatisfied, was frozen out by Schalke 04 due to disciplinary problems in his latter stint at Die Knappen.

Following Schalke 04's relegation, Bentaleb was loaned-out to Newcastle United in January 2020, but his performances were not good.

After returning to the club following his loan ended in the summer of the same year, Bentaleb's contract was terminated by Schalke 04, and he was unable to find a new club for a-year-and-a-half.

In January 2021, Bentaleb joined Angers as a free agent.

In August 2023, Bentaleb moved to Lille as a free agent.

Since becoming a member of Les Dogues, Bentaleb has so far made 81 appearances for the Ligue 1 powerhouse in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists, where he has helped the team reach the Coupe de France Round of 16s twice, the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League Round of 16s once each, and the UEFA Conference League Quarter-Finals once.
