Official: Schalke extends contract with 40-year-old striker Dzeko until 2027

Schalke 04 released a statement on Monday confirming the contract extension with 40-year-old Bosnian legend Edin Dzeko. The new contract extends the original summer expiry date by one year, remaining valid until June 30, 2027.

The official announcement also confirmed that Dzeko will continue to wear the number 10 jersey next season. His annual salary is expected to be €900,000, which could reach as high as €1.3 million including bonuses.

Edin Dzeko's professional career began in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Železnica, before moving on to Teplice, Üstý alabez, Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Roma, Inter Milan, Fenerbahce, and Fiorentina. During this time, he made 856 appearances in all competitions, contributing 371 goals and 156 assists, winning one Bundesliga title, two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup, one Community Shield, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Italian Super Cups.

In January of this year, Dzeko joined Schalke 04 on a free transfer. To date, he has made 11 appearances for Schalke, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists, playing a crucial role in the team's return to the Bundesliga.

It's worth mentioning that Dzeko was the absolute core of the Bosnian national team's 2026 World Cup campaign. During the World Cup, he captained the team and scored one goal in four matches, but Bosnia and Herzegovina ultimately lost to the United States and were eliminated in the round of 32.

Following the contract extension, Schalke 04's sporting director, Yuri Mulder, stated: "In his first four and a half months at Schalke 04, Edin has made a unique impact on the team. He is both a key member of the team and a fan favorite. His personal qualities serve as a role model both on and off the pitch."
