Wes Burns: I am very happy to join Leicester City, and I am excited about the club's future plans.

Leicester City's new signing Wes Burns has stated that he looks forward to contributing to the club's success in the 2026/27 season. The 31-year-old Burns completed his transfer earlier this week from Ipswich Town to Leicester City, having just helped the team secure promotion back to the Premier League before leaving Ipswich.  

Wes Burns has signed a three-year contract with Leicester City, further bolstering manager Russell Martin's options on the wings. At Leicester, Burns will reunite with former Ipswich Town teammates Conor Chaplin and Bobby De Cordova-Reid. With the 2026/27 season fast approaching, the England winger has already set clear goals for his new journey.  

In an interview at the Segrave training ground, Wes Burns said: "I am very happy to join Leicester City and I am excited about the club's current development plans. After talking with some familiar friends and the manager, I have a clearer understanding that the team has a very clear long-term plan, which is to help Leicester City get back to where they belong."  

"The club's training facilities are truly top-notch and have left a very deep impression on me. I spent some time touring the training ground this morning, and seeing the conditions here in person was truly impressive. Bobby and I have known each other for many years; we grew up and played together back in Bristol City. I'm really looking forward to playing alongside familiar teammates again and getting to know other members of the team."  

Facing the expectations of Leicester City fans, Wes Burns hopes to repay their support with goals and assists, and create more threats for the team in the game. He said: "I hope to give the fans enough exciting moments, including goals and assists. I am a more direct, traditional winger, mainly operating on the right wing, and I am right-footed, not the type of winger who likes to cut inside. You can expect me to participate in the attack in a more direct way. I will actively look for one-on-one opportunities, try to break through the defenders, and then send the ball into the penalty area."  

"For a professional player, moving from a higher league to a lower league requires a significant decision, let alone being demoted two leagues in a row. However, Leicester City showed me clear interest quite early on. Throughout my career, I have faced Leicester City many times while playing for my team, but the results were often unsatisfactory. They have always been a very strong team, so when I gradually felt their interest in me, I really wanted to make this transfer happen as soon as possible."  

Wes Burns' experience of being promoted three times during his time at Ipswich Town has become a valuable asset in his career. After joining Leicester City, he hopes to apply this experience to his new team. He said, "In my five seasons at Ipswich, I experienced three promotions, which is undoubtedly one of the proudest experiences of my career so far."  

“I hope to bring the experience I’ve accumulated over the years to the team, especially as the new season officially kicks in and the schedule becomes more packed. No matter how tough the game or how unsatisfactory the result, I can remain calm and composed. There will definitely be various difficulties in the long season, and it’s impossible to achieve ideal results in every game. One of my responsibilities is to help everyone maintain a stable mindset in the locker room. Our goal this year is very clear: to achieve promotion. And by the end of the season, we must ensure that this goal is achieved.”
