Marseille center-back Medina has officially joined Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year contract.

Bayer Leverkusen announced on Tuesday that Argentine center-back Facundo Medina has joined from Marseille. The two sides signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Medina's transfer fee is €23 million plus €2 million in add-ons. After joining Bayer Leverkusen, he will wear the number 2 jersey.

The 27-year-old Medina came through River Plate's youth academy and made his professional debut for Arsenal on August 12, 2018. After two years at Arsenal, he moved to Lens, where he made 165 appearances, contributing 8 goals and 10 assists.

In July 2025, Medina joined Marseille on a loan with an option to buy. To date, he has made 26 appearances for Marseille, providing one assist.

Thanks to his solid performances at the club level, Medina gradually came into Lionel Scaloni's sights after the 2022 World Cup. He has made 15 appearances for Argentina to date and will represent the country at the 2026 USA-CMC World Cup.

Regarding Medina's arrival, Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes commented: "We have brought in an extremely experienced professional player. With his strong will and ability, he will immediately become a mainstay of our team."

Medina said: "It would be a great opportunity for me to join Bayer Leverkusen and play in the Bundesliga. During the World Cup in North America, Ezequiel Palacios gave me a detailed introduction to the club and spoke highly of it. Palacios has played for the club for a long time and achieved great success – I hope to experience all of that at Leverkusen as well."
