Chavarria is grateful for his family's support after joining Chelsea.

Premier League giants Chelsea have officially signed Spanish defender Pep Chavarria. Chavarria said it was a huge opportunity and he was grateful for his family's support in getting to where he is today in his career.

The 28-year-old Chavarria previously played for Rayo Vallecano, making 33 appearances in the 2025/26 La Liga season, contributing one goal and two assists.

Chavarria, who signed a five-year contract with Chelsea, said, "I am very much looking forward to starting this new journey. It is a dream come true for me because Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is a huge opportunity, but I am ready and will work hard to help the team succeed."

Chavarria shared, “Every morning, afternoon, and night, I dream of having moments like this. When I was a child, my goal was always to join a club like this. I’ve played in leagues at all levels in Spain, and I’ve been able to move forward step by step because of hard work, because my dream has finally come true. I can say that it was all worth it.”

“I think the Premier League is the best league in the world. I feel the intensity of the game is higher, there's more physicality, and the overall quality is higher than anywhere else. I think this is the league that suits me best. I'm a player who really enjoys this kind of high intensity and I also enjoy one-on-one battles. Xabi Alonso was a top player, and now, for me, he's also one of the best managers in the world.”

Chavarria also said, "I have spoken with the head coach, and he explained his tactical philosophy to me and how I can fit into it. He wants to see my intensity in the game, my one-on-one ability, and my ability to constantly move back and forth on both ends of the pitch, covering the entire field, which is exactly how I play."

Furthermore, Chavarria added, "Chelsea is a championship team with many championship players, including Palmer, Morgan Rodgers, João Pedro, and Estewan Willian. I think they are among the best players in the world."
