Portugal's national team coach Jorge Jesus spoke at his pre-match press conference about the team's upcoming rematch against Norway. He views Sunday's game against Norway as a crucial battle in their quest to advance to the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals. Speaking to the media at the Estádio do Dragão, the coach emphasized that even against a strong opponent, Portugal will not adjust their playing style.
With three consecutive wins in their first three matches, Portugal has secured a favorable position, and the team hopes to extend their winning streak to four games, essentially guaranteeing their place in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals. Jorge Jesus said, "Of course, I hope we can win, which would essentially guarantee our advancement to the quarterfinals. Ideally, the team could replicate their performance against Denmark and play at a higher level."
"Of course, football sometimes doesn't give you the results you want. I hope Portugal can win and qualify for the next round with their home fans in front of them."
Jorge Jesus is prepared for a tough challenge against Norway. He points out that Norway not only possesses outstanding physical attributes, but their players' individual skills are also noteworthy. He states, "Norway is a top-five team in Europe, and they have many excellent players. Against such an opponent, we must concentrate fully."
"In terms of physical attributes, we are indeed at a disadvantage, with five of their players between 1.88 and 1.90 meters tall. However, we also have areas where we can compete. Although we are not as tall as them, we are faster. Most of our midfielders are only around 1.70 meters tall, but they are difficult for the opponent to contain once they have the ball. We need to truly showcase this advantage in the game. The Norwegian coach has already studied the video of the first leg."
Despite Norway's physical advantage, Jorge Jesus has no intention of changing Portugal's playing style. He stated, "The statistics don't lie. Norway is indeed a strong team, and I've reminded my players of that. Previous Portuguese teams also had some tall and strong players, but their technical skills weren't necessarily outstanding. The situation is completely different now; they possess a very high level of technical ability. We will continue to strive for victory and will not change our football philosophy."
With the current international break entering its fourth match, Portugal may make some adjustments to its starting lineup. Jorge Jesus stated that rotation will be made based on players' previous playing load, and confirmed that João Félix has resumed training, although the team still needs to complete one final training session.
Jorge Jesus said: "So far, we have made four personnel changes, mainly depending on the players' physical condition. Now that the team is playing a fourth game, players who have been playing a lot of time are starting to have injury concerns. Next, we will adjust some players who have been under heavy load, depending on the situation. João Félix has recovered, and I think he is fine at the moment, but we still need to have one more training session."
