Charlotte Hornets guard Coby White has suffered a calf injury and is confirmed to miss the entire preseason.

The Charlotte Hornets officially announced on Monday that their starting guard Coby White suffered a left calf strain during training camp and will miss the remainder of the preseason.

The team has not yet determined the exact severity of the injury and will update his physical condition based on further examinations; as for whether White can make it to the regular season opener against the Brooklyn Nets on October 21, there is still suspense.

The 26-year-old White signed a three-year, $74 million contract extension with the Hornets this summer. After the team traded LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves, a key gap appeared in the backcourt, and the versatile White was initially considered a core candidate to start at point guard for the new season.

After joining the Hornets from the Chicago Bulls in February last season, White played 21 games, averaging 15.6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. He also scored 19 points and hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to tie the game in the play-in tournament, demonstrating his strong ability to score.

White's injury puts the Hornets' backcourt rotation to the test. Prior to this, second-year guard Com Knuppel also missed the game due to a left hamstring strain; the two will both be spectators during the preseason.

The Hornets' first preseason game is scheduled for Tuesday night, where they will host the Nets. The coaching staff will have to adjust the rotation to cope with the shortage of guards.
