Michael Porter Jr., who has taken on different roles since joining the Nets: I've always known I have this ability.

In a recent interview, NBA forward Michael Porter Jr. shared his thoughts on the transformation of his role after joining the Brooklyn Nets from the Denver Nuggets, and expressed his belief that he has the ability to try and take on different possibilities.

Before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in July 2025, Michael Porter Jr. played for the Denver Nuggets for six seasons.

In the 2025/26 NBA regular season, Michael Porter Jr. played 52 games for the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 24.2 points per game with a field goal percentage of 46.3% and a three-point percentage of 36.3%.

Michael Porter Jr., 28, said, "During my seven years with the Denver Nuggets, I played with Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic. Every time the team was on offense, those two would touch the ball and orchestrate the offense, as well as create opportunities."

“Every summer I train in other areas in case I no longer play the same role. But after seven or eight years in the same role, I have to try different experiences to know if I can still do other roles.”

Michael Porter Jr. pointed out, "I've always known I have this ability. After being traded to the Brooklyn Nets, I knew I would play a different role and get more shot opportunities. But I still have to test it myself. For example, when opponents consistently assign their best defensive players to guard me, or even explicitly tell them not to let me receive the ball, how should I deal with that kind of defense?"

"My first game after joining the Brooklyn Nets was against the Charlotte Hornets, and I didn't play well. I remember scoring only 14 points. The second game was against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and I scored 34 points. They put their best defensive players on me, and Evan Mobley even switched to guard me, but I was still able to find the offensive opportunities I wanted."

In addition, Michael Porter Jr. said, "In the next game against the Atlanta Hawks, I scored more than 30 points again, and Dyson Daniels was guarding me closely. That's when I really realized that I was no longer with the Denver Nuggets."

"I think that first great game after joining the Brooklyn Nets completely changed my mind. That game was a major turning point for this new phase of my NBA career and for how I performed in different roles."
