Augsburg announced on Wednesday that they have officially bought out Sporting Lisbon's loan striker Rodrigo Ribeiro. The two sides also signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.
Multiple sources have confirmed that Ribeiro's buyout fee is approximately 5 million euros.
The 21-year-old Ribeiro came through the youth academy of Sporting CP and made his professional debut for the first team in the Champions League Round of 16 on March 10, 2022. He was subsequently loaned out by Sporting CP to Nottingham Forest and AVS, during which time he made a total of 4 Premier League appearances and 20 Primeira Liga appearances.
In January 2026, Ribeiro joined Augsburg on loan from Sporting Lisbon. To date, he has made 14 appearances for Augsburg and scored 2 goals.
Regarding the transfer, Augsburg's sporting director, Beni Weber, explained: "Rodrigo has made a positive impression on us in recent months and has shown his potential. His character and attitude are equally impressive and a perfect fit for Augsburg. We are very happy to continue working with him."
“Rodrygo’s speed, forward runs, and ability to seize opportunities in front of goal are all highly compatible with our tactical system. At the same time, his growth reflects our philosophy of discovering, nurturing, and helping young players improve.”
Ribeiro himself said: "I am very happy to continue playing for Augsburg. I quickly adapted to life here. From the first day I joined, the club, the team and the city have made me feel at home. The past few months have been very helpful to my growth, and I hope to build on that next season."
