Following Manchester City Women's 4-0 victory over Brighton to win the FA Cup and complete a double this season, manager Andrée Jeglertz praised captain Alex Greenwood in an interview, saying his leadership was key to the team's success this season.
In the final held at Wembley Stadium, Greenwood delivered an outstanding performance, contributing to three of the four goals. She first assisted Shaw in opening the scoring, and then scored directly from a free kick just before halftime. Despite not playing her preferred center-back position, but instead at left-back, the England international still demonstrated exceptional tactical execution and leadership.
In a post-match interview, Jegletz spoke highly of her: "There's so much to say about her. First of all, she's a wonderful person, an excellent player, and a great leader. This year has been very meaningful to me because she has been maintaining and managing the locker room."
“She has played center-back for many years, but she has also shown the curiosity to become a better player in all positions. Her performances at left-back today and throughout the spring have been fantastic. With her ability and personality, and her continued desire to improve, everyone can understand that this is the right path forward.”
This victory brought Manchester City Women's 2025-26 season to a perfect close, marking the first time in the club's history that they have won both the Women's Super League (WSL) and the FA Cup in a single season. With the upcoming 2026-27 season and the Champions League, Jägerletz emphasized that the entire team must maintain this hunger.
Jaegletz stated, "Winning the WSL title means a lot to the club, but we've also talked about how winning a trophy is one thing, but being a winning team in the next few weeks is another. Maintaining this hunger and dedication to win more honors is important for us in the future. We must not take anything for granted; we must keep this hunger."
