Union Berlin have officially announced the signing of 22-year-old center-back Zeno van den Bos from Belgian club Antwerp to strengthen their defense. The young Belgian defender, with over 100 professional appearances, will provide greater stability and experience to the team's backline.
Zeno van den Bosz's football career began at Mariaburg VK, where he trained at Bielschott and Liers before joining the Royal Antwerp youth academy, where he developed into a key player.
He made his Belgian First Division A debut on January 18, 2023, in a 3-0 away victory against Oostende. By the end of that season, he had helped the team win both the league and cup titles, making a total of 9 appearances in the league and cup competitions.
After entering the next season, Zeno van den Bos gradually secured a starting position, becoming one of the core players in the defense from the 17th round onwards, and gained experience in the Champions League, appearing against Barcelona, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto.
He subsequently secured a regular starting position, making 140 appearances for Antwerp in all competitions, contributing 3 goals and 2 assists. He also represented Belgium at the U17 and U21 levels, making appearances for both teams.
Zeno van den Bosz said: "My experience in Antwerp shaped me, and I am grateful to the club, both during my youth academy years and early in my professional career. Now it's time for me to move to the next stage, and I am very determined to join Union Berlin."
“From the very first communication, I felt the club’s clear philosophy, strong team atmosphere and good growth environment. This is exactly where I want to continue to improve myself, and I am very much looking forward to playing for the team at the Old Forestry Station Stadium.”
Union Berlin's sporting director, Horst Helter, commented: "Zeno van den Bos is a young defender with great potential, and his experience allows him to quickly integrate into the team. He has a height advantage, physical strength, and good mobility."
"To become a regular starter for a top Belgian club at his age requires not only talent, but also maturity, discipline, and leadership. We see these qualities in him and hope to continue developing these abilities with him. We are very pleased that he has chosen to join Union Berlin."
