◤FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico◢ Jonathan David bags hat-trick as Canada thrashed 9-man Qatar 6-0..


Host nation Canada thrashed nine-man Qatar 6-0 in the second Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico at the BC Place in Vancouver on Thursday.


In the first half, Larin and David scored on rebounds. Homam Ahmed was sent off for a malicious foul on Buchanan, which denied him a cleared and obvious goalscoring opportunity, before David again scored on the rebound. In the second half, Madibo was sent off for a causing malicious injury to Koné. Saliba scored a free kick, and Manai scored an own goal. Before the final whistle, David completed his hat-trick by scoring with a third rebound. Canada comfortably defeated nine-man Qatarby 6-0. After this round of matches, the Maple Leaf Team leads the group with four points, while Qatar sits at the bottom with one point.


First Half


Just 45 seconds into the game, Homam Ahmed crossed into the box from the left wing. Edmilson Junior quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed half-volley from a very close distance in the box, but his shot went wide of the right side of the post.


In the 16th minute, Alistair Johnston crossed from the byline at the right side of the box. Ismaël Koné quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the left side of the box. His shot was saved and cleared off not far away by Mahmud Abunada. Cyle Larin quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, tapped the ball into the bottom rightt corner of the net from a very close distance in the box with right-footed follow-up shot, giving Canada an early 1-0 lead!


In the 29th minute, Luc de Fougerolles made a straight pass from near the center circle. Tajon Buchanan quickly followed up, got the ball and cuts inside before taking a left-footed long shot from outside the penalty area. His shot was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Boualem Khoukhi. Upon picking up loose ball, Jonathan David tapped the ball into the bottom right corner of net with his right foot from the right side of the box, extending Canada's lead to 2-0!


2 minutes later, Koné played an overhead pass from the left wing. After beating the offside trap, Buchanan quickly followed up, got the ball, and dribbled to just outside of the penalty area before being maliciously brought down by Homam Ahmed. The referee immediately blew his whistle, and the VAR assistant referee intervened. After reviewing the VAR footage, it was determined that Ahmed had deliberately denied Buchanan a clear and obvious goalscoring opportunity. Therefore, the referee issued a straight red card to Ahmed and awarded Canada a free kick! Qatar was forced to play the rest of the match with 10 men!


Ali Ahmed immediately took a free kick for Canada by taking a direct right-footed shot from outside the penalty area, but his shot flew high and went out of the pitch.


In the 37th minute, Richie Laryea passes horizontally from the byline at the left side of the box. Buchanan quickly followed up and upon receving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot was blocked off the line by Akram Afif! Canada missed a golden opportunity to score again!


In the 3rd minute of first-half stoppage time, Johnston crossed into the box from the right wing, where Larin rose high and attempted with a header in the box . His effort was initially parried and cleared off not far away by Abunada. David quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, tapping the ball into the top right corner of the net from a very close distance with his right foot in the box, scoring his second goal and extending Canada's lead to 3-0!


At halftime, Canada already temporarily leading Qatar by 3-0.


Second Half


Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 51st minute, Koné was maliciously fouled by Assim Madibo after passing back from his own back half, resulting in a serious fracture of his calf and that he had to be stretchered off the pitch by medical personnel. The referee immediately issued a red card to Madibo, forcing Qatar to finish the game with only 9 men!


11 minutes later, Ali Ahmed was brought down by Ahmed Fathy while shooting from outside the penalty area, but the referee only issued a yellow card. This decision sparked a protest from the Canadian players!


Nathan Saliba then took the free kick for Canada, by taking a direct right-footed shot from outside the penalty area. His shot was parried and deflected into the bottom left corner of the net by Abunada, making it 4-0 for Canada against Qatar!


In the 75th minute, Jacob Shaffelburg's follow-up shot from the center of the box was deflected into his own net by Mohamed Manai, making it 5-0 for Canada against Qatar!


In the second minute of injury time, Shaffelburg passes horizontally from the left wing. Saliba got the ball and took a few steps before taking a right-footed long shot from just outside of the penalty area. His shot was unfortunately blocked by his teammate David, who then picked up the loose ball and, from a very close distance in the box, tapped the ball into the top left corner of the net with a left-footed follow-up shot to complete his hat-trick. Canada 6-0 Qatar! This was the Juventus striker's 42nd international goal!


When the final whistle is blown, Canada thumped 9-man Qatar by 6-0.
