England will travel to Gilleto Stadium to face Ghana in the second round of Group L matches at the 2026 World Cup. Arsenal star Condoleezza Rice stated in an interview that although Saka is still recovering, he remains confident his teammate will play a vital role for the team at the World Cup.
In the first round of the group stage, England defeated Croatia 4-2 thanks to a brace from Kane, as well as goals from Bellingham and Rashford, securing a winning start.
Speaking about Saka's recovery, England midfielder Rice said, "We're managing him very well right now. Considering how many games he's played over the past few seasons, and how I've personally witnessed him struggle with his Achilles tendon at Arsenal, I think we're managing his physical condition in the right way."
“Right now, we certainly don’t want to start Saka right away and risk injury. He’s in excellent training form and had a huge impact when he came on as a substitute a few days ago. He’s one of the best players I’ve ever worked with in big games and always wants to be in every match, but he’s also very smart in dealing with different situations here.”
Furthermore, in the 2025/26 season, Rice made 55 appearances for Arsenal and helped Arteta's team win the Premier League title. Following the Champions League final, Rice and his teammates quickly embarked on England's preparations for the World Cup.
Rice commented, "It's an incredible number of games, the schedule is crazy, but what can we do? We can't just sit there and complain. To achieve our goal of winning the Premier League title, we have to adapt. The team will play a lot of games, experience the joy of success, and know that major events like the World Cup are still ahead."
"If we want to stay in the squad, we have to take on some physical risks. There are just too many games, but eventually we will get some rest."
