Former Cleveland Cavaliers veteran J.R. Smith arrested on family violence charges..

ESPN reported on Wednesday, citing law enforcement sources, that former Cleveland Cavaliers veteran J.R. Smith has been arrested on family violence charges.

According to reports, Smith was arrested by police outside his home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Monday (September 28, local time). He has been charged with assault causing bodily injury (domestic violence) and is currently being held in the Hunt County Jail without bail.

Additionally, a spokesperson for the Royse City Police Department revealed that officers stopped Smith on Interstate 30 after receiving an automated license plate alert regarding an outstanding arrest warrant. However, police have not yet disclosed details regarding the alleged assault incident.

It is worth mentioning that this marks the second time Smith has been arrested for an alleged criminal offense. In 2009, he served 24 days in jail after pleading guilty to reckless driving following a car accident in New Jersey. In that incident, Smith failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in the death of his passenger, Andre Bell.

Now 41, Smith played as a shooting guard and small forward during his career, suited up for the New Orleans Hornets, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls.

Over the course of his 16-year NBA career, Smith played in nearly 1,000 games.

He was a member of the squads led by LeBron James that reached the NBA Finals four times between 2015 and 2018, including the team that won the championship in 2016. Additionally, during a brief stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, he won the 2020 NBA championship held in the Orlando "bubble."

Smith entered the NBA directly out of high school. After his professional career ended, he graduated from North Carolina A&T State University and competed for the school's golf team.
