Lyon have officially signed RB Salzburg midfielder Bystrup to a five-year contract.

Olympique Lyonnais announced on Wednesday the formal signing of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Max Bisterrup. The two sides reached a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.

The official confirmation also states that Bystrup's transfer fee is €10.5 million plus €3 million in add-ons. RB Salzburg also retains a 10% cut of the player's transfer fee on any subsequent transfer.

With the arrival of Bystrup, Lyon welcomes its fifth Danish player in club history. Reliable sources also indicate that Bystrup will wear the number 2 jersey for Lyon.

The 25-year-old Bystrup came through the youth academies of Brøndby, Copenhagen, and RB Leipzig, and made his professional debut for Brentford in the Championship on April 10, 2021. As one of the key players in Brentford's promotion to the Premier League, he made 14 appearances for the team in all competitions, providing 2 assists.

In January 2022, Bystrup was loaned to Northsea by Brentford for experience. He played for Northsea for a year and a half, making 47 appearances across all competitions and providing one assist.

In July 2023, Bystrup transferred to RB Salzburg for €6 million. To date, he has made 116 appearances for RB Salzburg, contributing 4 goals and 5 assists.

After completing the signing, Bystrup stated through official channels: "Joining Lyon is an exciting experience and a fantastic opportunity. I've come to a great club with an exceptional home ground and outstanding fans."

He added, "I enjoy defense, taking responsibility, and playing a leadership role in the team. I can't wait to play for my new team."
