Lyon officially announced the signing of Dortmund winger Durandwell on a five-year contract.

Olympique Lyonnais announced on Thursday the formal signing of Belgian winger Julian Durandwell from Borussia Dortmund. The two sides have agreed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.

For Lyon, this signing aims to fill the void left by Alfonso Moreira's move to Bayer Leverkusen. They will pay Borussia Dortmund a fixed transfer fee of €5 million, plus €3.5 million in add-ons and a 20% cut on any subsequent transfer.

The official announcement also confirmed that Durandwell will wear the number 20 jersey for Lyon.

Durandwell, 20, came through the Anderlecht youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team on May 23, 2022, during the Belgian First Division A playoffs. Since joining Dortmund in January 2023 for €13 million, he has made only 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

To gain more playing time, Durandwell joined Basel on a half-season loan in January. He made 17 appearances for Basel, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist.

Following the completion of the transfer, Durandwell stated in a press release: "I am delighted to join Lyon. Before signing, I had several discussions with the club's management. I felt good from the start and quickly envisioned my future at this club. I hope to follow in the footsteps of fellow Belgians Malik Fofana and Lejan Cherki. I am capable of playing on both wings, but I will first adjust my position based on the needs of the manager and my teammates."
