The Cavaliers have reached an agreement to lock in Donovan Mitchell for a four-year, $273 million maximum contract.

July 8th - According to ESPN, Donovan Mitchell has reached a four-year, $273 million maximum contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The new contract includes a player option for the 2030-31 season and a full trade compensation clause.

According to ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks, Mitchell could have waited until next summer to sign a five-year, $353 million supermax contract, about $80 million more than his current one. This new contract would also replace the player option for 2027 in his original contract.

Donovan Mitchell, 29, joined the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Utah Jazz in the 2022 offseason, marking his second contract extension since arriving in Cleveland. After being swept by the New York Knicks in this year's Eastern Conference Finals, Mitchell stated that he still had " unfinished business " in Cleveland and hoped to lead the team to a championship for the city. " We'll be back, we'll be ready, stay hungry, and give it our all, " Mitchell said.

Since joining the Cavaliers four seasons ago, Mitchell has been selected to the All-Star team four times and made the All-NBA team three times ( First Team in 2025 , Second Team in 2023 and 2026 ). He has averaged 26.7 points, 5.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game, leading the team to the playoffs for four consecutive years and reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time last season.
